HMS - Poor Performance with Spoiler
I ain't much on NASCAR statistics, but it seems to me that since the CUP Series switched over from the rear wing to the spoiler, HMS (Hendrick Motor Sports) cars haven't performed too well on medium high speed tracks.
Dale Earnhardt, JR's 88 team has been performing a bit below the other 3 teams (5, 24 & 48) since late in the '08 season, but now it's gotten to the point where the 88 is running a bit better, but the other three teams are running almost as poorly as the 88 each week. They all seem to have sunk almost to the level of the Roush teams, who are showing slight signs of improvement.
This whole NASCAR CUP performance deal tends to be cyclic and when your cycle is on the down side, it always takes a good while to get back on top. Writers seem to be jumping on JR's team all the time, while they should look at their performance in the context of HMS's overall performance, which has been poor across the board since the wing/spoiler change.
I suspect we'll see a lot of performance changes before the season's over, but for now times sure are tough for picking your Fantasy NASCAR teams each week. :-)
