Conflict between NASCAR and my sleep patterns surfaced last nite. The race from Charlotte ended around 11:30 pm. Unfortunately, I was in bed at 10:30 pm.
Fortunately, my TiVo captured the TV broadcast. I managed to see the end of the race around 9 hours after completion; 8:30 am Sunday morning.
Of course I lose some continuity of the race events from late evening until morning, but the result was the same, with Jamie McMurray coming out on top.
I won't comment on the race or broadcast except to repeat that the ESPN announcers talk entirely too much and their producers have entirely tooooooo many fill pieces taking time and attention from the actual racing on the track.
Oh yes, there's the obsession they have with showing/commenting on Chase drivers while pretty much ignoring my favorite driver, who's not in the Chase.
It's hard to beat night racing at Charlotte. I haven't personally been to a Charlotte race since back in the late '70s or early '80s, my old fart memory fails me here, but the Charlotte track is just an excellent venue to attend; and for TV.
Unlike newer tracks, the Charlotte track is a relatively narrow and has abrupt level changes in to and out of corners. The cars are extremely fast and not at all stable, always providing excitement.
Late nite excitement would be more fun if I weren't so sleepy. And of course it just ain't the same when I watch it early in the morning. I have to watch early; else I would likely find out the winner before watching the complete race; which would be a real bummer.
Enjoy the beautiful Sunday weather here in the Big Town of Savage,
JD
