About a month ago it dawned on me that I would turn the big Seven - Oh, 70, the end of May. As of today it's here and I am 70. When I was this little urchin sitting on top of the telephone pole most people didn't make it to their 70th birthday.
Today it's a different world and folks seemingly live forever, not that I expect to, but it is kind of nice to keep on having birthdays...as someone mentioned to me, "It's much better than the alternative."
Over the past 2 weeks, I've had two people that were very close to me during my childhood die. Cousin Betty was 82 and Aunt Drucille was 91. Betty was still extremely young and vibrant and just a pleasure to be around. Unfortunately, Dru was a victim of something like Alzheimer's for the past few years. I didn't get to see either of them very frequently lately, maybe once a year. But they will be missed.
I've never been the type to obsess about age or getting old. My approach has always been to enjoy today as much as possible while at the same time maintaining some moderation in my life style. That approach has gotten me this far, so I plan to stick with it as long as I can and of course continue my daily meds. :-)
I sure hope you've enjoyed your life as much as I've enjoyed the ups and downs of mine during these first 70 years.
Still alive and kicking here in the Big Town of Savage,
JD
PS - You're right, my daddy put me up on that pole and if he did it today he'd be in the county lockup!!!

what a cute little darling boy who grew up to be a good looking 70 year old friend of mine. I am your older sister, 77 on June21st. If I live to end of November 2011, I will beat Mom who lived to be 77 and 5 mos. and Dad who lived to be 72 and 6 days and brother Herbert who lived to be 72 and 11.5 months.
I am the sole survivor of our little 4 people family... elita
