Fearless Fife

Do ya think President Obama will be like ol' Barney used to be? Or is our new leader the real thing? I really liked ol' Barney Fife. He was always ready to jump into action at the slightest provocation and set things right again. I recall Barney always kept his bullet at the ready; or at least he did whenever Andy would let him have it.

President Obama is a real likable fella just like ol' Barn was; there's just something about the rascal that makes you wanna root for him. Barney was like that too. We always rooted for Barney to succeed, whether it was with the new girl in town or apprehending the latest con artist to come through Mayberry.

My recollection though is that when things got too tough for Barney, he would make a little mistake or he had to back off from the overwhelming presence of a really bad guy. Ol' Barn was lucky that he was a deputy in Mayberry, 'cause Mayberry's sheriff Andy Taylor was always close by to come in and set things straight again and give Barney a 'feel-good'.

I sure hope our new President has a lot of ol' Sheriff Taylor in his makeup. 'Cause while it's neat to have a likable guy like Barney out front for the United States, you really do need a guy with Sheriff Taylor's moxie to make sure things work out the right way.
