NASCAR - Dover Monster Mile - NOT Boring

As I mentioned last week, the INDY 500 was definitely boring and the combination of rain delay and rain combined to create a very boring Coke 340.5 at Charlotte.

The 400 at Dover's Monster Mile this Sunday was anything but boring. It was excellent CUP racing; racing as it should be from beginning to end. In the final segment, Jimmie Johnson started 9th with four fresh tires while his major competition had only two fresh tires but started at the front. Jimmie had the fastest car all day and showed it again after the final restart. That was as good a segment of racing as we've seen in a long time. With Jimmie, Tony and The Biff, there was definitely action to the end.

Dover is an exciting venue to begin with, even without lights and night racing. Improvements to pit road seemingly eliminated most of the problems we've seen there in the past from congestion.

The race started around 2 PM which is about an hour later than I would like, but it was complete at 6 PM allowing time for a family dinner. That's the way Sunday racing ought to be. Start early afternoon and finish before dinner!!!

I didn't do too well in my Yahoo Fantasy NASCAR deal this week, but that's become normal for this upside-down season. Maybe things will be better Sunday at Pocono for the 500. Pocono has the best camera shot in racing; a wide shot looking down that extremely long, wide front straightaway. Man that stretch is so long you can get cars 4 wide and they gotta cut down to 2 wide before the corner. Mayhem awaits them that don't!

Pocono can have long quiet stretches of racing, but man there is also excitement galore at times. Pocono is also a Sunday afternoon race with no lights at the track.
