Christmas Bulletin Board - Savage Elementary 3rd Grade

Christmas is a time to gather with family and friends to exchange presents and to share memories.  Here is a memory from 1949 when I was a student at Savage Elementary School.

Our third-grade teacher, Mrs. Reitenauer, had a contest where we students drew our ideas for the class Christmas bulletin board.  A lot of fireplaces with stockings were drawn.  Mrs. Reitenauer selected my classmate Anne-Marie Gabor's idea -- Santa in his sleigh flying over a snow-covered town.

Mrs. Reitenauer appointed Anne-Marie to be in charge of producing the bulletin board and told her to select two classmates to assist her.  Everyone waved their hands wildly in the air.  Anne-Marie chose Daren Bevins and myself, Dewey Williamson.  We set about drawing, coloring, and cutting out the figures.

The picture shown above was taken of the three of us sitting in front of the finished Christmas bulletin board.

Anne-Marie joins me now in wishing all of you a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year!

PS - The foto and information above were provided by Anne-Marie, who has a much better memory than I do for happenings back in our school days.  I'm not sure where Daren is today, 65 years later, but I join Anne-Marie in wishing you all a wonderful visit from Santa this Christmas.

PPS - Anne-Marie provided a wonderful presentation to the Savage Historical Society in April 2011; some info on that presentation is available at this site: Savage Elementary School - 1947 First Grade.
