Bella Boxer and 43 Year Carpet - Vertical Blind Incident

Bella Boxer is winning the battle with the 43 year-old carpet. As I detailed in an earlier Bella Boxer/Carpet Report, Bella Boxer has become an indoor exerciser up and down the hallway between the bedrooms and the living room.

Worn, high wear spots on the carpet are now becoming tattered with holes beginning to open where Bella Boxer gets her best grip. Her claws digging into the bare carpet netting gives her superb grip and she tries her damnedest to go faster each time.

Bella Boxer also enjoys charging up and down the stairs that connect the entrance foyer to the upper and lower floors of my split-foyer style house. About 2 weeks ago, Bella Boxer was feeling particularly zippy. She zoomed down the stairs and toward the sliding doors in the back of the rec room.

The rec room floor also has 43 year old cover, in this case tile. Bella Boxer tried to change direction before hitting the sliding door, but it was not to be. Her feet tried for traction but came upon a scatter rug, which immediately folded up as she slid into the metal vertical blinds on the door.

I heard the crash all the way upstairs in the kitchen. Bella Boxer isn't a light-weight dog and the vertical blinds now display the effect of Bella Boxer crushing them. Bella Boxer ran back up the stairs as though she was terrified of a Grizzly Bear and hid in granddaughter's room.

I did my best to straighten the blind, but it still harbors a significant bruise as testimony to Bella Boxer's destructive collision. Bella Boxer, a skitterish dog to begin with, is now even more skitterish to unknown situations, and maybe it's just my imagination, but she seems to keep her distance from the blind on the sliding door.

My list of needed house upgrades continues to grow from the wear and tear of Bella Boxer. Carpet and vertical blinds have also moved up a bit in priority.

JD, here in the Big Town of Savage wondering how the Christmas tree will survive Bella Boxer on Christmas morning.

PS - I prefer 'skitterish' to 'skittish' even tho the on-board dictionary continues to highlight it as needing change. Just my old fart ways showing again.

What a funny story! Bella might be leading you to a whole house remodeling :-)

I think you're right, Susan, at least to the extent that she's accelerating the schedule. :-)

Ahhh. But the laughs and love she brings to the family more than makes up for the chaos she brings to the 47 yr old carpet. Bella thinks she's human.
